Description of key information

According to Degussa (1985) and Demangel (2010), the auto flammability of MITC (methyl isothiocyanate) occurred at ca 365°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
365 °C

Additional information

Two references to the auto flammability was found:

  • According to Degussa (1985), the auto flammability of MITC (methyl isothiocyanate) occurred at 370°C. Nevertheless, no data is given in or order to challenge the validity of this result.
  • According to EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases)) on behalf of MLPC in 2010, the mean self ignition temperature of the test item EKALAND MITC W (Methyl isothiocyanate) was: 356 ± 5 °C (corrected value).

As a consequence, self ignition temperature of MITC (methyl isothiocyanate) is about 365°C.
