Description of key information

On the basis of intraperitoneal application of radiolabelled succinonitrile it is concluded, that succinonitrile is absorbed for 100%. In addition, on the basis of physicochemical  properties (high water solubility and very low vapour pressure) it is concluded, that succinonitrile is absorbed for 100% via ingestion and via inhalation. The maximum dermal absorption (95 percentile estimate from QSAR of human skin in vitro) is 0.05 mg/cm2/hour.

Compounds with a high water solubility and a low vapour pressure are absorbed for 100% by ingestion and inhalation.

Dermal absorption is estimated with a QSAR (ten Berge 2009, Tibaldie et al. 2014). The maximum absorption rate in mg per cm2 per unit of time is estimated (maximum 0.05 mg/cm2/hour). If the external exposure over time is higher than the maximum absorption rate over the observation time, only a fraction of the substance is dermally absorbed. The percentage dermal absorption is only dependent on the dermally applied dose. The maximum absorption rate, the dermal surface contaminated and the contact time provide an estimate of the maximum dermally absorbed dose.
