Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The evaluation of the short-term toxicity to microorganisms of Reaction product of tin, citric acid and nitric acid can be based on the properties of the substances tin dioxide, nitrate ions and citric acid, because these are the relevant species generated due decomposition of the target substance at environmental conditions.

Both Citric acid and sodium nitrate are very soluble in water, whereas tin dioxide has no effects at its solubility limit (< 0.1 mg/L).

All the source substances are of very low acute toxicity for microorganisms with EC50/EC10 values well above 100 mg/L.

In conclusion it is considered justified to use the available toxicity data on tin dioxide, potassium nitrate and citric acid to assess the short -term toxicity of Reaction product of tin, citric acid and nitric acid to microorganisms.

An EC50 (3 h) of >1000 mg/L is taken for the assessment of the short -term toxicity of Reaction product of tin, citric acid and nitric acid to green algae.
