Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

NOEC (21d) = based on sluble Lanthanum ions 0.26 mg/L for Cyprinus carpio. This concentration is higher than the water solubility of lanthanum oxide. Therefore no toxicity to fish is expected for lanthanum oxide at the saturation concentration in this assay.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One chronic toxicity study on fish was available for Lanthanum trichloride hydrate according to Guideline OECD 204 usingCyprinus carpioas test species. A NOEC (21 d) of 0.26 mg La/L was determined. The concentration of 0.26 mg La would correspond to a concentration of 0.3 mg/L of Lanthanum oxide. Given the low water solubility of lanthanum oxide of 69.6 micro-g/L (at pH 6.29 to 6.85) it can reasonably be asumed that the Lanthanum oxide concentration at saturation in this test system would be below the NOEC of the lanthanum ion and Lanthanumoxide would no excert any toxicity to fish at the water solubility limit under the conditions of this test.

Toxicity data for marine species are not available.
