Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Short term toxicity to fish

The most valid and best described test were performed on Pimephales promelas by Brooke et al (1984)showing LD50 of 104 mg/l. This is adjusted to 247.52 mg/L for calcium acetylacetonate (with molecular weight correction)

Long term toxicity to fish

According to ECHA guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (v1.1., August 2008) Chapter R7b, Figure R.7.8.4 page 53, if based on acute aquatic toxicity data neither fish nor invertebrates are shown to be substantially more sensitive, long term studies may be required on both. According to the integrated testing strategy, the Daphnia study is to be conducted first. If based on the results of the long term Daphnia study and an applied assessment factor of 50, no risks are indicated, no long term fish testing may need to be conducted. Based on the current environmental exposure assessment, even with an assessment factor of 1000, no risk is indicated for the aquatic compartment.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

OECD 202 study on acetylacetone with 48 hr EC50 = 25.9mg/L readjusted to 61.64 mg/L calcium acetylacetonate based on molecular weight correction.

Long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

OECD 211 study on acetylacetone with 21 days NOEC = 18 mg/L readjusted to 42.8 mg/L calcium acetylacetonate based on molecular weight correction.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

OECD 201 study on acetylacetone with 72 hr ErC50 = 83.22 mg/L readjusted to 198.06 mg/L calcium acetylacetonate based on molecular weight correction. A 72 h NOEC of 3.2 mg/L with acetylacetonate, readjusted to 7.62 mg/L calcium acetylacetonate based on molecular weight correction.

Toxicity to microorganisms

One OECD 209 GLP study is available for bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium

The toxicity of bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium to activated sludge was determined at a contact time of 3 hours, using various concentrations of the test substance. . The EC50of bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium for activated sludge after 3 hours contact time is in excess of the highest test concentration, i.e. > 640 mg/L.
