Description of key information

Using sieve analysis, the mean particle size of 2-methyl-p-phenylenediamine sufate (Haarbraun) was determined to be 67 µm without fine dust( 60.01%) and 46 µm when including the fine dust.
Using laser diffraction method, the average median particle size was determined to be 6.5 µm.

Additional information

The particle size distribution of 2-Methyl-p-phenylenediamine sulfate (Haarbraun) was determined with two guidelines:

  • guideline CIPAC Handbook Volume F, MT 59 (1995) by sieve analysis method, The sieve analysis was carried out in the dry sieving technique using analytical sieves with the mesh width 32, 45, 63, 90, 125, 150 and 250 µm. Particle size fraction below 32 µm was removed by preliminary sieving with the 32 µm sieve. The amount of fine dust (<32 um) was determined to be 60.01 % of the applied mass. The mean particle diameter of the 2-Methyl-p-phenylenediamine sulfate (Haarbraun) particles (32 - 250 µm) with and without fine dust was 46 and 67 µm respectively.
  • guideline 67/548/EEC with consideration of OECD 110, CIPAC MT 187, and IS013320-1 (Particle Size distribution/Analysis by Laser Diffraction). Laser diffraction method was used to determine the particle size distribution of the test material using Helium-neon laser forming a collimated and monochromatic beam of light. The test material was fed to the optical system by direct spraying using pressurized dry air (1.5 bar g). The measurement was started after adjusting the laser and correct particle concentration (obscuration). The control software automatically performed three measurements. Two test series were performed. The average median particle size of Haarbraun was 6.5 µm.
