Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Test procedure:
other: preliminary study to check if the test item ignites
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Safety Pre-Test

Glowing was observed, the colour of the test item changed from black to dark grey. The surface of the magnesia groove had turned yellow green after cooling down. The test item showed no signs of ignition.

Screening Test

Glowing was observed during heating. No ignition occurred within two minutes. After cooling down, the glowing area has turned to yellow green. Therefore the test item FAT 40210/F was considered as not highly flammable and conduct of the main study was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
FAT 40210/F TE should be considered as not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability of FAT 40210/F was evaluated in a study conducted according to EU Method A.10. During the preliminary study, the test item did not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period. Only glowing was observed during heating. After cooling down, the glowing area has turned to yellow green. Therefore, the test item FAT 40210/F was considered as not highly flammable and conduct of the main study was not necessary.

Description of key information

FAT 40210/F is considered as not highly flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability of FAT 40210/F was evaluated in a study conducted according to EU Method A.10. During the preliminary study, the test item did not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period. Only glowing was observed during heating. After cooling down, the glowing area has turned to yellow green. Therefore, the test item FAT 40210/F was considered as not highly flammable and conduct of the main study was not necessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

FAT 40210/F was considered as not highly flammable based on the findings of a study conducted according to EU Method A.10. Hence it does not warrant classification for flammability as per the criteria of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
