Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Initial Concentration of the test item : 99.8%
Sample storage conditions before analysis: in a closed vessel dark and dry at room temperature.
On test solutions : concentrations were measured at the beginning and at the end of the test. The correlation between measured concentrations after 48 hours and nominal concentrations was very good (92 to 99%).

Test solutions

Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
A stock solution containing 100.1mg/L of test item in water was diluted to give a series of concentrations : 10/18/32/56/100mg/L.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
-Variety: STRAUS
-Strain: Berlin
-Source: Umweltbundesamt Berlin
-Age: between 0 and 24 hours
Details:
Daphnia Magnia is bred in LAUS GmbH throughout the year. The animals are kept for the use in toxicity tests. They multiply by parthenogenesis, thus being genetically identical.

Details on results:
None of the daphnia died or shown any signs of abnormal behaviour throughout the test.
Only the highest concentrated treatment (100mg/L) showed toxicity (100% immobilisation after 48 hours), due to acidic property of the test item and the very low pH value in the test solution at 100mg/L.
Results with reference substance (positive control):
The 24h-EC50 of potassium dichromate was tested in a current reference test. The value was determined as 1.7mg/L, lying within the demanded range of 0.6-1.7mg/L.
Immobilisation in the controls may not exceed 10% and immobilisation in the controls was 10%.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
24h-NOEC = 56 mg/L
48h-NOEC = 56 mg/L
24h-EC50 = 100 mg/L
48h-EC50 = 75 mg/L
This result will not conduct to a classification "dangerous for environment".
