Additional information

The partition coefficient of the test material was determined in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 117 under GLP conditions using the HPLC method. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

The test material chemical structure indicated that it was potentially ionisable. As a result the test material was run at both neutral (environmental) and acidic pH (to put it in the neutral form). At neutral pH, the test material was dissolved in methanol followed by a dilution into methanol:water (75:25); at acidic pH the test material was dissolved in methanol followed by dilution in methanol:20 mM potassium phosphate monobasic, pH 2.5 (75:25). Two separate samples were prepared for each pH, and each was analysed using HPLC. The log Kow of the test material was determined using a calibration curve constructed from 7 reference materials (plot of capacity factors against log Kow).

The test material was composed of many components, displayed as many peaks, ranging in retention time from approximately 1 to 60 minutes. Only peaks with an area greater than 5 % of the total were included in the calculations of Kow.

Under the conditions of this study the test material displayed a weight-averaged log Kow of 3.13 at neutral pH and 5.02 at acidic pH.
