Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Short-term toxicity

There are no reliable aquatic toxicity data available for tris(trimethylsiloxy)phenylsilane (CAS 2116-84-9) therefore good quality data for the structurally-related substance decamethyltetrasiloxane (L4, CAS 141-62-8) have been read across.

The requirement for conducting a short-term test with Daphnia has been waived on the basis that there are reliable read-across long-term toxicity data available with invertebrates.

A reliable toxicity test result is available for algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) read-across from decamethyltetrasiloxane (L4, CAS 141-62-8). The relevant short-term values are:

Algae: EC50 (72 h): >2.2 µg/l (>0.0022 mg/l); NOEC: =2.2 µg/l (=0.0022 mg/l) determined for the effects of decamethyltetrasiloxane on growth rate of the freshwater algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, based on geometric mean measured concentrations.

Long-term toxicity

Toxicity to fish: A 45-day NOEC of =4.4 µg/l has been determined for the effects of the registration substance on mortality and behaviour of Lepomis macrochirus. The results are expressed relative to mean measured concentrations of the substance and were obtained as part of a flow-through test that was undertaken to determine the potential for bioconcentration of the substance from water to fish. Because this is a bioconcentration factor test rather than a guideline-compliant long-term fish toxicity test, the results are used only as supporting data.

Toxicity to invertebrates:

A reliable toxicity test result is available for Daphnia magna read-across from decamethyltetrasiloxane (L4, CAS 141-62-8). The relevant long-term value is: 21-day NOEC value of =4.9 µg/l based on adult mortality, reproduction and growth of Daphnia magna under flow-through conditions and expressed relative to mean measured concentrations.
