Description of key information

Tris(trimethylsiloxy)phenylsilane is a liquid at ambient temperature and pressure, with a measured melting point of <-20°C and a predicted boiling point of 280°C. It has a predicted density of 0.95 g/cm3 at 20°C and a predicted vapour pressure of 0.09 Pa at 25°C.

The substance is not classified for flammability in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 on the basis of a measured flash point of 112.0 ± 1.0°C and a predicted boiling point of 280°C. It has a measured auto-ignition temperature of 430°C at 98.5 - 98.8 kPa, and is not explosive and not oxidising on the basis of structural examination.

In contact with water, the substance reacts slowly with an estimated half-life of >200 hours at pH 7, >1.9 hours at pH 4 and >2.0 hours at pH 9 and 20-25°C. The stated half-life is for removal of parent. Complete reaction to the ultimate end products will take longer. The equation for the reaction is stated below:

[(CH3)3SiO]3SiC6H5+ 3H2O ¿ 3(CH3)3SiOH + C6H5Si(OH)3

Tris(trimethylsiloxy)phenylsilane has a predicted log Kow of 9.0 at 20°C and a measured water solubility of 0.0066 mg/l at 23°C. The substance is not surface active based on structural examination.
