Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -80 °C
Atm. press.:
1 006 hPa
Decomposition:
no

Crystallization and melting of the test item were not observed by experiments on the DSC conducted till - 90°C.

To further investigate the melting temperature of the test item, two subsamples of the test item were stored for 24 hours at -22.2 ± 0.3°C and at -82.1 ± 2.6°C respectively. It was observed after storage that the test item was a liquid (-20°C and -80°C freezer). According to this observation it was concluded that the melting temperature of the test item is < - 80°C (<193K).

Conclusions:
The freezing temperature of Sulfonyl vinyl ether perfluorurate was determined to be < -80°C (< 193K) by applying a storage experiment in the freezer.
Executive summary:

The melting temperature of Sulfonyl vinyl ether perfluorurate (CAS 29514-94-1) was initially investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The test was performed according to the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals no. 102: "Melting Point / Melting Range", July 27, 1995 and was GLP compliant.

However, crystallization and melting of the test item were not observed by experiments on the DSC conducted between -90°C and 250°C. Therefore an additional test was conducted in which two subsamples of the test item were placed overnight in a freezer at -20°C and -80°C, respectively.

The freezing temperature of Sulfonyl vinyl ether perfluorurate was determined at < -80°C (< 193K) by applying a storage experiment in the freezer.

Description of key information

One reliable key study (Klimisch 1) is available. The melting point of the test item was conducted with Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) according to recognized guidelines (OECD Guideline 102 EU Method A.1 and EPA OPPTS 830.7200) and GLP. No deviations from the guidelines were observed during the test. Crystallization and melting of the test item were not observed by experiments on the DSC. Further investigation was conducted applying a storage experiment in the freezer.

The melting/freezing temperature of Sulfonyl vinyl ether perfluorurate was determined at < -80°C.
