Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Water flea
- Strain: Clone C, Clone F
- Age at study initiation (mean and range, SD): < 24h
- Method of breeding: For each genotype, two 2 L bulk cultures of 15 animais were maintained at the
desired water hardness with the addition of a standard organic extract (Baird et al. 1989). Animais were fed daily with Chlorella vulgaris Beijerinck (1 x 10E6 cells ml ). The culture medium was changed twice weekly and neonates removed within 24 h of release.
- Feeding during test: no

Any other information on results incl. tables

In this study the toxicity of copper to two different Daphnia magna clones (which are generally used in toxicity testing) were examined. Clone F was significantly more sensitive (LC50 48h = 3.2 µg/L Cu moderate hard water; LC50 48h = 23.1 µg/L Cu hard water) than clone C (LC50 48h = 15.4 µg/L Cu moderate hard water; LC50 48h = 119 µg/L Cu hard water).

LC50 48h = 3.2 µg/L Cu = 0.012 mg/L CuSO4*5H2O
