Additional information

The substance was shown to be readily biodegradable. Complete degradation of the substance by bacterial strains isolated from mangrove sediments was achieved by sequential degradation mediated by Klebsiella oxytoca Sc andMethylobacterium mesophilicum Sr. Primary degradation of the substance was demonstrated under sulphate-reducing conditions in a sediment microcosm study, although complete mineralisation was not achieved (65% degradation of dimethyl isophthalate was reported after two months).
