Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
19 October 2020 to 27 October 2020
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Version / remarks:
2019
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Assay 1: neither propagation nor ignition was observed.

Assay 2: neither propagation nor ignition was observed.

Overall: taking into account the results obtained during the preliminary test, no main test was performed.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not highly flammable in accordance with EU criteria
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study, the test material is not classified as a flammable solid
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test material was assessed according to standardised guideline UN Test N.1 and in compliance with GLP.

A preliminary screening test was performed and no propagation of combustion of the test material along the 200 mm length of the train within two minutes was observed. The definitive burning rate test was not required.

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is not classified as a flammable solid.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.

Description of key information

Flammability (solids)

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is not classified as a flammable solid.

Pyrophoricity

In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.

Flammability in contact with water

In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Flammability (solids)

The flammability of the test material was assessed according to standardised guideline UN Test N.1 and in compliance with GLP.

The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

A preliminary screening test was performed and no propagation of combustion of the test material along the 200 mm length of the train within two minutes was observed. The definitive burning rate test was not required.

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is not classified as a flammable solid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
