The flash point of Dodecane was determined to be 78.1 and 79.1 °C (mean value: 79 °C), hardly deviating from the literature value (78.6 °C, ASTM D7094, Table X1.1).

For the determination of the initial temperature of flash point measurement a screen test was performed with the test item. The sample was heated from 25 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. Based on this preliminary test the flash point of Propanediol Caprylate was determined to be: 149.1 °C.

In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points of Propanediol Caprylate were: 153.1 °C, 152.0 °C and 153.0 °C, resulting in a mean value: 153 °C at 101.3 kPa.

The repeatability criterion was met because the maximum difference between replicate determinations was not more than 2 °C.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The mean flash-point of the test item (corrected at the pressure of 101.3 kPa) was determined to be 153 °C.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Directive 92/69/EEC method A.9 and OPPTS 830.6315 to determine the flash point of the test item. Therefore, a Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester was used.

After filling ca. 2 mL sample into the sample cup the stirring magnet was inserted into the cup and it was placed into the tester. Based on the preliminary test, the main test was started at 135 °C with a heating rate of 2.5 °C/min. In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points of Propanediol Caprylate were: 153.1 °C, 152.0 °C and 153.0 °C, resulting in a mean value: 153 °C at 101.3 kPa.

Description of key information

The mean flash-point of the test item (corrected at the pressure of 101.3 kPa) was determined to be 153 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
