Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From July 04, 2019
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods: manual of test and criteria Revision 6 (2015)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN model regulation revision 20 (2017)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2293 Sheet 1 (1990)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
ca. 2 min
Moisture (wt %):
6.4
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Remarks:
The test item only melted.

The test substance could not be ignited applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes. The test substance only melted.

The test substance is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation: The product does not warrant classification as readily combustible solid in class 4.1.

GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1:2.7): The product does not warrant classification as flammable solid.

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified based on EU CLP criteria
Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the substance was not classified as a readily combustible and flammable solid.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the flammability of the substance, according to the UN recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods manual of test and criteria Revision 6 (2015), UN model regulation revision 20 (2017) and VDI guideline 2263 sheet 1 (1990), in compliance with GLP. The test substance did not ignite using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes in preliminary test. As the test substance could not be ignited by a flame in preliminary test, the performance of the main test was not necessary. Under the study conditions, the substance was not classified as a readily combustible and flammable solid (Hartmann, 2019).

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

The flammability of the test substance was determined according to the UN recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods manual of test and criteria Revision 6, UN model regulation revision 20 and VDI guideline 2263 sheet 1 (Hartmann, 2019).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results of the flammability study, the substance does not warrant classification according to EU CLP (1272/2008/EC) criteria.
