Description of key information

Appearance:

On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, Calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 -sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthoate was observed to be a solid red powder.

Melting point:

The melting point determination of Test item Calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 - sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthoate (CAS No. 5281 -04 -9 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block.No change was observed up to 400°C, inferring that the Mean Melting Point was determine to be greater than 400°C at 976.9 hPa.

Boiling Point:

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid which melts above 300°C .The melting point determination of Test item Calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 - sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthoate (CAS No. 5281 -04 -9 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. No change was observed up to 400°C, inferring that the Mean Melting Point was determine to be greater than 400°C at 976.9 hPa.

Density:

The density of Test item Calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate (CAS No. 5281-04- 9 ) was determined following OECD guideline 109 and according to the method adapted from ASTM D 854-02. The mean density of the test item was determine to be 0.3518 g/cm³at 20 °C and 976.8 hPa.

Particle size distribution:

The particle size distribution of test item Calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate (CAS No. 5281-04-9 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determine to be in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron.

Vapour pressure:

The study does not need to be conducted because the melting point is above 300°C. The melting point determination of Test item Calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 - sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthoate (CAS No. 5281 -04 -9 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. No change was observed up to 400°C, inferring that the Mean Melting Point was determine to be greater than 400°C at 976.9 hPa.

Partition coefficient:

Based on the available data from secondary source, the partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 -sulfonatophenyl)diazenyl]-2 -naphthoate was determined according to OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method) at a temperature of 25°C and pH 3 & 4, respectively. The logKow value of test chemical was determined to be ranges from 2.4 to 2.5, respectively at pH 3 & 4 and at a temperature of 25°C.

Water solubility:

Water solubility of chemical calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate is determine to be 8.9 mg/L at temperature 25 Deg C. From this solubility value it is concluded that Calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate is slightly soluble in water.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. Calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate (CAS no. 5281-04-9) is used as a printing inks and plastic industries. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

The flash point determination of Test item Calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthoate (CAS No. 5281-04-9 )was done. The method was closed cup method using Pensky-MartensFlash Point Apparatus. The mean flash point of the test item was determine to be greater than 250°C at 976.9 hPa.

Auto flammability:

Calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 -sulfonatophenyl)diazenyl]-2 -naphthoate did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 976.9 hPa. This indicates that calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 -sulfonatophenyl)diazenyl]-2 -naphthoate is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 -sulfonatophenyl)diazenyl]-2 -naphthoate does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that calcium 3 -hydroxy-4 -[(4 -methyl-2 -sulfonatophenyl)diazenyl]-2 -naphthoate is not flammable at high temperature. pH:

The pH determination of test item Calcium 3-hydroxy-4-[(4-methyl-2-sulphonatophenyl)azo]-2-naphthoate (CAS No. 5281-04-9 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The mean pH of the test dispersionwas determined with the help of digital pH meter. The mean pH was determine to be 7.10 at 24°C.
