Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
flask method
Key result
Water solubility:
< 1 other: ppm
Conc. based on:
element
Remarks:
Chromium
Temp.:
30 °C
pH:
>= 5 - <= 6
Details on results:
ICP analysis for ppm Cr was less than 1 ppm – detection limit of the test. No material dissolved due to lack of color change of the water to green (100% solubility would have been a 239 ppm reading). The pH remained in the 5-6 range and the temperature of the test was 20°C initially, then increased to 30°C. The ICP sample was taken after the 30°C temperature solubility was completed since none of the material appeared dissolved at 20°C
Conclusions:
The solubility in water of the test item is < 1 ppm Cr at 30°C.
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
(Q)SAR
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
accepted calculation method
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: accepted calculation method
Principles of method if other than guideline:
QSAR prediction
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: QSAR prediction
Specific details on test material used for the study:
The program WSKOW v1.42 estimates the water solubility based on the before calculated octanol-water partition coefficient (done by KOWWIN v1.68). A log Kow of 7.64 was used for estimation.
Water solubility:
0 mg/L
Temp.:
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: No information about the pH value is available. A log Kow of 7.64 was taken into account for this prediction.
Details on results:
No further details available.
Conclusions:
The water solubility of the test substance was determined by the computer program WSKOW v1.42 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA. In principle, the program estimates the octanol-water partition coefficient as first step and calculates, based on this value, the water solubility. The water solubility at 25 °C is predicted as 0.0002812 mg/L.

Description of key information

Under the experimental conditions of the test carried out according to a method similar to OECD 105 guideline (flask method), the water solubility of the test item was determined to be < 1 ppm Chromium at 30°C.
