Description of key information
Explosive properties of Ammonium Perchlorate depend on the specific form of the substance marketed. This is taken into account in CLP regulation EC n°1272/2008 - annex VI - note T.
Granulometry is a key parameter for explosive properties of Ammonium Perchlorate.

All tested qualities of Ammonium Perchlorate give a positive result to A.14 test method (as defined in regulation EC n°440/2008). This is reported in the endpoint study record named "explosiveness_A.14_Ammonium Perchlorate_general case".
According to CLP and chapter R7 of REACH guidance, explosive properties can be determined using Test Series 1 to 8 of the "UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Good, Manual of Tests and Criteria". The current classification of Ammonium Perchlorate for transport is explosive (UN n°0402) or oxidising (UN n°1442) with the special provision n°152 : "the classification of this substance will vary with particle size and packaging, but borderlines have not been experimentally determined".
In consequence, each Ammonium Perchlorate manufacturer may undertake testing according to UN RTDG on his own Ammonium Perchlorate qualities to determine their explosive properties. These specific studies are reported in the following endpoint study records named "Explosiveness_UN_Ammonium Perchlorate_company name"
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to DSD until 1st of december 2010, Ammonium Perchlorate is classified R44 : risk of explosion if heated under confinement.
In the general case, Ammonium Perchlorate is classified as explosive class 1.1 according to GHS. It is considered as non explosive if there is a specific study available concerning well defined qualities of the substance bellowing to one manufacturer.
