Description of key information

Indole is produced in the GI tract of humans by bacterial degradation of dietary tryptophan residues.Indole is processed and usually found to accumulate in human feces, and at high concentrations, indole possess a strong, unpleasant fecal odor. Surprisingly, at very low concentrations, indole has a pleasant, flowery smell and  often used as a constituent in flower scents, like orange blossom. The compound is aromatic and solid at room temperature, and it has many applications inthe fragrance industry, and increasingly, the pharmaceutical industry.The total systemic exposure to indole (0.40 μg/kg bw/day) is below the TTC (1.5 μg/kgbw/day. Hence this endpoint can be considered for waiver
