Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Experimental results on the acute toxicity of Triiron bis(orthophosphate) (CAS 14940-41-1) to aquatic invertebrates are not available. The assessment is therefore based on read-across data. In accordance with Annex XI, 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, read-across to the structurally related Iron II Sulfate Heptahydrate (CAS 7782-63-0) was conducted to fulfil the standard information requirements. In accordance with Article 13 (1) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, "information on intrinsic properties of substances may be generated by means other than tests, provided that the conditions set out in Annex XI are met.” In particular for aquatic toxicity, information shall be generated whenever possible by means other than vertebrate animal tests, which includes the use of information from structurally related substances (grouping or read-across). According to Annex XI, Item 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 substances can be considered to be similar if their physicochemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties are likely to be similar or follow a regular pattern as a result of structural similarity. For further details please see chapter 6.1 of the IUCLID file.

Two studies are available for the read across substance Iron II Sulfate Heptahydrate (CAS 7782-63-0). One study on the acute toxicity of the substance to Gold Medaka (Oryzias latipes) was conducted according to OECD 203 under semi-static conditions as limit test with 100 mg/L nominal test substance concentration (MOE, 2002). The test solution was prepared by adding the stock solution to required volume of test solution. The test concentration was confirmed by analysis. The concentration of the test substance could not be measured. The test substance concentration was therefore determined by measuring the concentration of iron and converting the value. The analytical test substance concentration at the start was 112 mg/L and 35.8 mg/L was measured after 24 h. The time-weighted mean was calculated with 66.9 mg/L. There were no effects on survival observed at the test substance concentration (LC50 (96h) ≥ 100 mg/L nominal; LC50 (96h) ≥ 66.9 mg/L time-weighted mean).

The second study on the acute toxicity of the substance to Gold Medaka (Oryzias latipes) was conducted according to JIS K0102-1998-71 (MOE, 2002). The study was set up as a semi-static limit test. After 96 hours a LC50 > 45.2mg/L was determined.

Based on the study results for the read-across substance the assessed substance Triiron bis(orthophosphate) (CAS 14940-41-1) is considered not acutely toxic to fish.
