Details on results:
As solubility was dependent on nominal concentration, no exact value for the solubility of the test substance in water can be stated. The solubility range for the tested nominal concentration 304 – 1,004 mg/L was 15.6 – 40.2 mg/L at 20.0±0.5°C (15.6 – 40.2 X 10E-03 kg/m3 in SI units). Therefore, 4.5% of the test substance (mean value) was dissolved in water relating to the nominal concentration of the test substance.

The TC content of the test substance was determined in the laboratory Mikroanalytisches Labor Pascher (D-53424 Remagen) with 73.14% and the value was used in the calculation of the test substance concentration from the measured DOC concentration. The measured value in the blank flask lay below the LOQ of TC (<1.60 mg/L). After the analysis of the Day 3 sample, the plateau was considered as reached.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted to evaluate the water solubility of the test substance according to OECD Guideline 105 and EU Method A.6 using the flask method. Solubility was determined from the measured concentrations of dissolved organic carbon in filtered test solutions. In the preliminary test, flasks with nominal concentrations 10 and 1,000 mg/L were shaken at room temperature for 3 d and measured for DOC. Values of <1.6 and 29.0 mg/L dissolved organic carbon (DOC) were measured in the flasks at nominal concentrations of 10 and 1,000 mg/L, respectively. In the main test, six different nominal concentrations of test substance (100, 300, 500, 600, 800 and 1,000 mg/L) were chosen to study the effect of the loading rate on the measured water solubility. The flasks for the different concentrations were placed on a shaking apparatus for a predefined time. Samples were taken, membrane filtered and analysed for DOC via TOC analyser. No Tyndall effect (i.e., a laser beam was not scattered when transmitted through the liquid) could be observed, indicating that no colloidal dispersed particles were present. Linear dependency of solubility on amount of test substance (nominal load) was assessed in the main test. As solubility was dependent on nominal concentration, no exact value for the solubility of the test substance in water could be stated. Under the study conditions, the solubility range for the tested nominal concentrations of 304 - 1,004 mg/L was 15.6 - 40.2 mg/L at 20.0±0.5°C (Affolter, 2015).
