Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
MEXORYL SCK was NOT considered as a flammable solid under the experimental conditions used, according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP Regulation)
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
A GLP study was performed in order to estimate the flammability property of MEXORYL SCK (also called MEXORYL SBT) in compliance with the EU methods A.10.
An attempt was made to ignite the sample with the aim to determine the burning time over a distance of 200 mm, if applicable.
In contact with the flame of a gas burner (contact time of about 2 minutes) MEXORYL SBT burned and turned black and carbonized. Without the ignition source the flame extinguished. As MEXORYL SCK could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test, no main test was performed and the test substance is considered as not highly flammable.
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. The substance is considered to be adequately characterised. Therefore full validation applies.
Regarding the studies related to the determination of flammability in contact with water and of pyrophoric properties and in accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, these stuides are deemed unnecessary based on the experience in handling and use of the substance.
Considering that the experience in handling and use of MEXORYL SCK confirms the lack of hazard, the test A12 (Flammability on contact with water) and the test A13 (Pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids) were not conducted.
Justification for classification or non-classification
As MEXORYL SCK could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test, no main test was performed and the test substance is considered as not highly flammable.
Note : In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, studies for flammability on contact with water and for pyrophoric properties are deemed unnecessary based on the experience in handling and use of the substance. Therefore, the test A12 (Flammability on contact with water) and the test A13 (Pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids) were not conducted.
