In general, all LC50(96h) values derived with different fish species for various test substances in the SCAE C2 -C8 category were above the limit of water solubility.

The toxicity of Isopropyl myristate to bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) was tested in static conditions according to an EPA Guideline with the nominal test concentrations of 78, 130, 220, 360, 600 and 1000 mg/L (Sousa et al. 1979). There were no toxic effects observed in the species tested after an incubation period of 96 hours up to 1000 mg/L, resulting in an LC50(96h) value of >1000 mg/L. After 24 and 48 hours fish were observed to behave lethargic, however all fish recovered. Chemical flakes were observed to adhere to the glassware and tubes and/or collect as film at the surface.

A supporting study with Cyprinus carpio, conducted as a limit test according to a national guideline and GLP, stated an LC50(48h) > 1000 mg/L (Bogers 1988). Tween 80 was used as solvent, nevertheless macroscopic droplets of the test substance could be observed in the test concentration of 1000 mg/L.

In another read-across from Fatty acids, C8 -16, 2 -ethylhexyl esters (CAS 135800 -37 -2), the marine species Scopthalmus maximus was tested with a WAF, resulting in a LL50(96h) value > 5600 mg/L (nominal)(Hudson 2002).
