Description of key information

The use pattern of silicon carbide (crude and grains) makes exposure to birds negligible. Unlike pesticides e.g., silicon carbide is not intentionally released into the environment. As an inorganic substance it is not regarded as bioaccumulative. Since bioaccumulation in fish and earthworms is excluded, it is unlikely that birds would be exposed to silicon carbide in their diet, i.e. secondary poisoning risk for birds is very low.

For these reasons testing on avian toxicity is regarded as not necessary.
