No direct or indirect exposure of environment is to be expected, as styrene oxide is solelyprocessedand used under strictly controlled industrial conditions. The strictly controlled conditions used are always documented in detail at all industrial sites where styrene oxide is usedas outlined in CSR chapter 9.

Moreover some data on environmental behavior are available. Styrene oxide is readily biodegradable and would be hydrolysed rapidly in water.

Atmospheric half life for degradation by OH-radicals is about 3 days. Styrene oxide has no bioaccumulation potential and low soil sorption potential. Moderate volatilisation from aqueous solution is expected.
