Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Due to unreliable test results of the tested substance, the vapour pressure of m-phenylenebis(methylamine) of 0.69 Pa at 25°C was taken for the chemical safety assessment.

Additional information

The vapour pressure of the 'BADGE-MXDA' was determined by a slightly modified OECD 104 method at three different temperatures (10°C, 25°C and 50°C). The results were: 253.3 Pa@10°C, 373.3 Pa@25°C, 826.6 Pa@50°C. These results are unreliable, because the measured vapour pressure is much higher than the v.p. of the pure amine (MXDA, 0.69 Pa at 25°C, taken from the Safety Data Sheet of a manufacturer. .

It is assumed that the tested sample has picked up significant amounts of moisture which has probably falsified the test results. It is planned to run this v.p. test again under dry conditions.

Until new results will become available, the vapour pressure of the amine (MXDA, 0.69 Pa @25°C)) has therefore been used in a weight of evidence approach for the Chemical Safety Assessment of the substance. The rational for this is, because the amine is the component with the lowest molecular weight, the highest volatility and highest health hazard. It has therefore been used for the human health related exposure assessments.

Other publications report a calculated vapour pressure of MXDA of 4.0 Pa at 25°C. The vapour pressure as measured according to the OECD 104 guidelines (0.69 Pa@25°C) seems to be the most reliable value.
