Additional information

In a GLP compliant study performed according to OECD 202, Daphnids were exposed to loadings of 0, 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L of the test substance during 48 hours. Immobility was found to be 10% at 56 and 60% at 100 mg/L. The loading rate of 56 mg/L (measured average 4.99 mg/L) is considered to be the NOEC. The EC50 is > 4.99 mg/L (Harlan 2014).

Other studies:

A product containing 30% resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, compds. with triethanolamine was tested in a study conducted in accordance with ÖNORM M 6264 (Koller-Kreime and Kohl, 1990). 15 concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 100 mg/L nominal load were tested. Based on limited swimming behaviour and observed mortality the 24h-NOEC was estimated to be 5 mg/L.

In a GLP-compliant, guideline study performed according to OECD guideline 202 with the analogue rosin, fumarated, no effects were observed in a limit test at 1000 mg/L. Thus, this value represents the NOEC and the EC50 was estimated to be >1000 mg/L.

Another study with the analogue rosin, fumarated, study was conducted in accordance with the following guidelines: OECD Guideline No. 202/2004, EC No. 440/2008 Method C.2, and EN ISO 6341-June 1996. Two studies were performed, a limit test and a test using five concentrations ranging from 4.6 to 100 mg/L nominal load. In the limit test, significant inhibition was observed in the treatment, the study was aborted and the second experiment was performed. Due to the very low solubility of the test item in the daphnia test medium, the determination of the biological results was based on the water accommodated fraction. Therefore, the 48-hour EL50 for rosin, fumurated was >100 mg/L based on the nominal loading of the water accommodated fraction.

The available data on resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, compds. with triethanolamine show that all observed effects were found above the water solubility of < 1 mg/L.
