Description of key information

Adsorption / desorption

KOCWIN model of Estimation Programs Interface was used to predict the soil adsorption coefficient i.e Koc value of test chemical tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate (CAS No. 1643 -31 -1). The soil adsorption coefficient i.e Koc value of tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate was estimated to be 10 L/kg (log Koc=1) by means of MCI method (at 25 deg C). This Koc value indicates that the substance  tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate has a negligible sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have rapid migration potential to ground water.

Additional information

Adsorption / desorption

Various predicted data for the target compound tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate (CAS No. 1694-31-1) and supporting weight of evidence study for its structurally and functionally similar read across substance were reviewed for the adsorption end point which are summarized as below:

In aprediction done using theKOCWIN Programof Estimation Programs Interface was used to predict the soil adsorption coefficient i.e Koc value of test chemical tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate (CAS No.

The Soil Adsorption Coefficient i.e Koc value of test substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate was estimated using Adsorption Coefficient module program as Koc 140, 137, 117, 47.4, 7.19, 1.15 and 1 at pH range 0-8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, respectively (logKoc value ranges from 0 to 2.1 ± 1.0, respectively) (ACD (Advanced Chemistry Development)/I-Lab predictive module, 2017)). The logKoc value (2.1 at pH 7.0) indicates that the substance tert-Butyl0 3 -oxobuta noate has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration potential to ground water.

In an another prediction done by using ChemSpider Database (2017), the Soil Adsorption Coefficient i.e Koc value of test substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate (CAS no. 1694 -31 -1) was estimated. The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate was estimated to be 108.13 (Log Koc = 2.033) at pH 5.5 and 108.08 (Log Koc = 2.033) at pH 7.4, respectively. This Koc value indicates that the substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration potential to ground water.

Additional soil adsorption coefficient i.e Koc value of test chemicaltert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate (CAS No. 1694 -31 -1)was estimated using the SciFinder database (2017).The soil adsorption coefficient i.e Koc value of tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate was estimated to be 98.3, 98.1, 96.4 and 82.2 at pH range 1-7, 8, 9 and 10, respectively (logKoc ranges from 1.914 to 1.992) (at 25 deg C). This Koc value indicates that the substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration potential to ground water.

From CompTox Chemistry Dashboard using OPERA (OPEn (quantitative) structure-activity Relationship Application)  V1.02 model in which calculation based on PaDEL descriptors (calculate molecular descriptors and fingerprints of chemical), the adsorption coefficient i.e KOC for test substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate was estimated to be 37.1 L/kg (log Koc = 1.569).The predicted KOC result based on the 5 OECD principles. This Koc value indicates that the substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration potential to ground water.

In a supporting weight of evidence study from authoritative database (2017) for the test item, adsorption experiment was conducted for estimating the adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test chemical. The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value was calculated using a logKow of 0.40 and regression derived equation. The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test substance was estimated to be 39 (Log Koc = 1.591). This Koc value indicates that the test substance has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration potential to ground water.

For the test chemical, adsorption study was conducted for estimating the adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test chemical (authoritative database, 2017). The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value was calculated using a structure estimation method based on molecular connectivity indices. The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test substance was estimated to be 1 (Log Koc = 0). This Koc value indicates that the test substance has a negligible sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have rapid migration potential to ground water.

On the basis of above overall results for target chemical tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate (from modelling databases,2017), it can be concluded that the Koc value of test substance tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate was estimated to be ranges from 10 to 140, respectively, indicating that the test chemical tert-Butyl 3-oxobutanoate has a negligible to low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have rapid to moderate migration potential to ground water.
