First-aid measures

4.1 Description of first aid measures

General advice : Move out of dangerous area.

Consult a physician.

Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

Do not leave the victim unattended.

If inhaled : Move to fresh air.

If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical

attention immediately.

In case of skin contact : If on skin, rinse well with water.

If on clothes, remove clothes.

Immediate medical treatment is necessary as untreated

wounds from corrosion of the skin heal slowly and with difficulty.

Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

In case of eye contact : Small amounts splashed into eyes can cause irreversible tissue damage and blindness.

Remove contact lenses.

In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty

of water and seek medical advice.

Continue rinsing eyes during transport to hospital.

Protect unharmed eye.

Keep eye wide open while rinsing.

If swallowed : Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

Keep respiratory tract clear.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

If symptoms persist, call a physician.

4.2 Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms : Skin contact may provoke the following symptoms:

Burn

corrosive effects

Redness

Inhalation may provoke the following symptoms:

Shortness of breath

Asthma

In case of eye contact

Excessive lachrymation

Fire-fighting measures

5.1 Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media : Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

Unsuitable extinguishing

media

: High volume water jet

5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during firefighting

: Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray.

Risk of receptacle bursting.

Contact with water or moist air liberates irritating gas.

Readily hydrolyzed by moisture, with the liberation of hydrochloric acid.

Contact with moist air produces dense fog/fumes.

Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water

courses.

Hazardous combustion products

: Chlorine compounds

5.3 Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment

for firefighters

: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if necessary.

Further information : The product itself does not burn.

Extinguish using suitable media, or isolate and allow to burn

out.

Use water spray barriers (curtains) to contain the toxic clouds.

Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This

must not be discharged into drains.

Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must

be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Accidental release measures

6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions : Do not breathe mist or vapours.

Use personal protective equipment.

Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

6.2 Environmental precautions

Environmental precautions : Prevent product from entering drains.

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform

respective authorities.

6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Methods for cleaning up : Neutralize with chalk, alkali solution or ammonia.

Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel,

acid binder, universal binder, sawdust).

Handling and storage

7.1 Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling : Keep away from water

Protect from moisture.

Avoid formation of aerosol.

Do not breathe vapours/dust.

Avoid exposure - obtain special instructions before use.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

For personal protection see section 8.

Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area.

Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.

Container may be opened only under exhaust ventilation

hood.

Advice on protection against

fire and explosion

: Normal measures for preventive fire protection.

Hygiene measures : Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. General industrial

hygiene practice. Wash hands before breaks and immediately

after handling the product.

7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements for storage

areas and containers

: Store in corrosive resistant container with a resistant inner

liner.

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated

place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Electrical installations / working materials must comply with the technological

safety standards. To maintain product quality, do not store in

heat or direct sunlight.

Advice on common storage : Keep away from metals.

Recommended storage temperature

: < 40 °C

Dampness : Protect against water., Keep containers dry and tightly closed

to avoid moisture absorption and contamination.

Further information on storage stability

: Keep in a dry place.

No decomposition if stored and applied as directed

Exposure controls / personal protection

8.1 Control parameters

Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.

8.2 Exposure controls

Engineering measures

Handle only in a place equipped with local exhaust (or other appropriate exhaust)

Personal protective equipment

Eye protection : Wear face-shield and protective suit for abnormal processing

problems.

Wear safety glasses with side shields or goggles.

Hand protection

Material : PVC

Break through time : < 240 min

Glove thickness : 1,1 mm

Glove length : Long sleeve gloves

Skin and body protection : Complete suit protecting against chemicals

acid-resistant protective clothing

Impervious clothing

Footwear protecting against chemicals

Respiratory protection : In the case of dust or aerosol formation use respirator with an

approved filter.

FFP3 (EN149:2001+A1:2009)

In the case of vapour formation use a respirator with an approved filter.

When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure

limit they must use appropriate certified respirators.

Stability and reactivity

10.1 Reactivity

Contact with water liberates toxic gas.

Stable under recommended storage conditions.

10.2 Chemical stability

Decomposes when moist.

Decomposition under influence of moisture is highly accelerated by heating.

pressure build-up

No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

10.3 Possibility of hazardous reactions

Hazardous reactions : Readily hydrolyzed by moisture, with the liberation of hydrochloric acid.

Stable under recommended storage conditions.

10.4 Conditions to avoid

Conditions to avoid : Exposure to moisture

Exposure to water vapour.

Avoid shock and friction.

Extremes of temperature and direct sunlight.

10.5 Incompatible materials

Materials to avoid : Humid air

Strong bases

Alkali metals

Alkaline earth metals

Metals

10.6 Hazardous decomposition products

Decomposes in contact with water.

Hydrogen chloride gas

Disposal considerations

13.1 Waste treatment methods

Product : Dispose of in accordance with the European Directives on

waste and hazardous waste.

According to the European Waste Catalogue, Waste Codes

are not product specific, but application specific.

Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in

discussion with the waste disposal authorities.

Do not dispose of waste into sewer.

Do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with chemical or used container.

Send to a licensed waste management company.

Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and

national regulations.

Contaminated packaging : Empty remaining contents.

Dispose of contaminated packaging as if unused product.

Do not re-use empty containers.
