Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

105 mN/m at 20°C and consentration in 100 mg/L
Aluminim sulphate belongs to the Following Reactive Group: Salts, Acidic Inorganic/Organic. There are 271 chemical datasheets assigned to this reactive group. There are no structural alerts with regard to surface activity of the substance.
Based on chemical structure, no surface activity is predicted
The study of Dogan Ornek, Turker Gurkan, and Cevdet Oztin, 1998 was the first which predicted the surface tension for commercial aluminum sulfate hydrate to be 105 dyn/cm (see endpoint 001).

Additional information

The physical and chemical properties of the commercial aluminum sulfate melt that do not exist in the literature were measured in the study of Dogan Ornek, Turker Gurkan, and Cevdet Oztin,1998. The aluminum content of commercial aluminum sulfate hydrate varies between 16 and 17% Al2O3. The viscosity of this product is in the range 160−260 cP, density is in the range 1.705−1.735 g/cm3, and the surface tension is predicted to be 105 dyn/cm. These properties change sharply with temperature and concentration.
