Additional information

PCBTF is expected to be stable in water as it was not degraded by sunlight in a study conducted in water and, according to structural properties, hydrolysis is unlikely. It is moderately stable also in air, where the DT50 due to oxidation is calculated by EPISUITE to be 38 days. There are no data with regard to stability in soil, however a low Koc value was found in an adsorption study, thus indicating low affinity to soil. The Henry's Law constant was determined by calculation and was 5343 at 20°C, therefore the evaporation from soil and water is expected to be high.

PCBTF is not readily biodegradable by STP microorganisms. No simulation studies are availalable on the biodegradation in water, sediment or soil. However, two studies are available showing that it was not possible to assess the biodegradation of the test item in water under either aerobic and anaerobic conditions because of the high volatility of the PCBTF. In view of these results it appears unlikely that PCBTF would remain in natural, aerated, aquatic environmental for any appreciable lenght of time.

A bioconcentration study in fish is available, indicating that PCBTF has a low potential for bioaccumulation in fish.
