Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2017-12-18 (experimental phase)
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Version / remarks:
Regulation EC No. 440/2008 Method A.9. Flash Point
Deviations:
not specified
Qualifier:

Key result
Flash point:
13 °C
Atm. press.:
101.3 kPa
Remarks on result:
other:
Remarks:
average corrected and rounded down to the nearest multiple of 0.5 °C
Interpretation of results:
Category 2 (highly flammable liquids) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The study was performed under GLP according to EU method A.9 with the Abel apparatus ABA 4 closed cup method on the registered substance itself. The test procedure is well documented without restrictions or deviations and therefore reliability of Klimisch 1 has been assigned. The flash point was determined to be 13.0 °C at 101.3 kPa (< 23 °C). Taking into account the boiling range of 108 - 109 °C beside the measured flash point, the test item has to be classified as highly flammable liquid of category 2 and has to be marked with the warning “H225: highly flammable liquid and vapour”.
Executive summary:

The test item Trimethyl orthoacetate (TMOA) has a closed-cup flash point of 13.0 °C (average corrected and rounded down to the nearest multiple of 0.5 °C), according toRegulation EC No. 440/2008 Method A.9. Flash Point and DIN EN ISO 13736 (2013).

UN Transport Regulation: As the test item has a boiling range of 108 to 109 °C (> 35 °C) and a measured flash point of 13.0 °C (< 23 °C), it has to be classified in class 3 asflammable liquid of Packaging Group II.

GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.6): As the test item has a boiling range of 108 to 109 °C (> 35 °C) and a measured flash point of 13.0 °C (< 23 °C), it has to be classified as highly flammable liquid of category 2 and has to be marked with the warning “H225: highly flammable liquid and vapour”.
