Description of key information
The acute toxicity of 5-Amino-o-cresol on aquatic organisms was determined on the 3 trophic levels (Fish, daphnids and algae) according to OECD guidelines and following GLP :
- 96h LC50 on Zebrafish = 25 mg/L, based on nominal concentrations (tested concentrations were stable) and according to OECD 236;
- 48h EC50 on Daphnia magna = 2.3 mg/L, based on nominal concentrations (tested concentrations were stable) and according to OECD 202;
- 72h EC50 (growth rate) on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata = 41 mg/l based on geometric mean measured concentrations and according to OECD 201. The NOEC (growth rate) = 3.3 mg/L (geometric mean measured concentrations).
The chronic toxicity of 5 -Amino-o-cresol was assessed on algae (see NOEC (growth rate) = 3.3 mg/L above) and on daphnids with the reproduction test OECD 211. The 21 day-NOEC on Daphnia magna = 0.24 mg/L based on time-weighted mean measured concentrations.
Daphnia is the most sensitive species to the substance 5 -Amino-o-cresol, and the NOEC of 0.24 mg/L is used to calculate the PNEC to the aquatic organisms.
The EC50 total respiration > 150 mg/L is considered as the most reliable value which integrate the effect of the 5 -amino-o-cresol on the functionning of all organisms in a STP. It is prefered to the NOEC which is more dependant on the choice of the tested concentrations.
