Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of TCD to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) has been assessed under semi-static conditions using a sealed test system.

Based on mean measured concentrations, the 96 hour LC50 was 0.116 mg/L (95% confidence limits of 0.0913 and 0.140 mg/L), and the no observed effect concentration was 0.0417 mg/L.

The acute toxicity of TCD to Daphnia magna was assessed, in semi-static exposure conditions and in a sealed test system, over 48 hours, with renewal of media at 24 hours. The 48-hour EC50 of TCD for the immobilisation of Daphnia magna was 0.158 mg/L (95% confidence limits of 0.129 and 0.17 mg/L) based on measured concentrations of TCD. The 48 hour ‘no-observed effect concentration’ NOEC of TCD with Daphnia magna was 0.0553 mg/L (measured concentration) TCD.

The effect of TCD on the growth of the unicellular green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata has been assessed over a 72 hour period.

After 72 hours of exposure to TCD, the ErC50 (growth rate) and EyC50 (yield) were 0.590 and 0.210 mg/L respectively, based on measured and estimated concentrations. The “no observed effect concentration” (NOEC) for growth rate and yield was 0.0867 mg/L based on estimated concentrations, and the “low observed effect concentration” (LOEC) for growth rate and yield was 0.288 mg/L based on measured concentrations.
