Description of key information
The viscosity of isobutyl-R-lactate, as extrapolated from the optical antipode isobutyl-S-lactate, is 3.5 mm²/s at 20.0 °C and 2.0 mm²/s at 40.0 °C.

The viscosity of (S) isobutyl-lactate was evaluated in a GLP study according to OECD guideline 214 at 20.0 °C and 40.0 °C test temperature. At 20 °C both runs revealed a flow time of 1178 s and at 40 °C of 677 and 674 s, respectively, corresponding to kinetic viscosities of 3.5 and 2.0 mm²/s, respectively, considering a viscosity constant of 0.003. This result can be extrapolated to the target substance isobutyl-(R)-lactate without restrictions, since being the optical antipode.
