Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The registered substance hydrolyses to [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]methylsilanediol and ethanol, with a hydrolysis half-life of 11.7 hours. Therefore, the environmental hazard assessment, including sediment and soil compartments due to water and moisture being present, is based on the properties of the silanol hydrolysis product in accordance with REACH guidance for Chemical Safety Assessment.

[3-(2,3-Epoxypropoxy)propyl]methylsilanediol is susceptible to further hydrolysis reactions and the ultimate silanol hydrolysis product is 3-{3-[dihydroxy(methyl)silyl]propoxy}propane-1,2-diol. However in the absence of clear evidence of the rate of this reaction, it is assumed for the purposes of the chemical safety assessment to be moderate or slow under environmental conditions. Therefore [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]methylsilanediol is the hydrolysis product relevant to conventional REACH Chemical Safety Assessment.

3-{3-[Dihydroxy(methyl)silyl]propoxy}propane-1,2-diol is the final product of hydrolysis reactions under the normal range of conditions of pH and temperature. However, other biotic or abiotic reactions may proceed over longer time-scales in the environment.
