Executive summary:

The substance was tested for short term toxic potential to fish according to an internal method n. 11, comparable to OECD guideline 203 (1992).

Replicates of 8 Salmo gairdneri (trout) per test concentration were used. The duration of the test was not given.

The LC50 of the test substance was determined to be about 580 mg/l, equivalent to 230 mg/l of active ingredient, given a purity of 39.6 % of test material.

Therefore, the test substance is nontoxic to fish.

The short-term acute toxicity to fish species was investigated in seven experiments carried out according to scientifically acceptable methods comparable to OECD test guideline 203.

96-hour tests on Brachydanio rerio fish led to LC50 > 333 mg/l and LC50 = 360 mg/l in terms of active ingredient.

Salmo gairdneri fish was also used and the following LC50 values were obtained in 96-hour tests: 550 and 485 mg/l. LC50s obtained in 48-hour tests were: 580 and 130 mg/l. LC50 (duration unavailable) in another test was 580 mg/l. Based on the active ingredient content in test material, these values are all above the threshold limit of classification for aquatic toxicity in the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), namely 100 mg/l, except for LC50 = 130 mg/l (LC50 = 42 mg/l as active ingredient). However, this result was disregarded as not confirmed by other available tests on the same species. In addition, the reliability of this study couldnot be assessed due to the lack of experimental details.

The most restrictive result i.e. LC50 (96 h) = ca. 485 mg/l, equivalent to 162 mg/l of active ingredient, was taken as reference.

The water solubility of the substance is << 0.02 g/l as determined by the flask method in OECD guideline 105 (1) (2). Therefore, under test conditions, concentration of test substance in water is 20 -30 mg/l, while the excess is undissolved in water (1) (2). Despite this undissolved fraction, no signs of physical effects on test organisms were seen.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the substance is non-toxic to fish at the concentrations tested.
