Description of key information

In accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex IX, Column 2, 9. 1, as the RCR freshwater is < 1 no further effects of methylcyclohexane on aquatic organisms need to be investigated and a long-term test with aquatic invertebrates is therefore not required.

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex IX, section 9.1.5 long-term toxicity tests on aquatic invertebrates does not need to be investigated if the outcome of the chemical safety assessment shows no indication of risk on aquatic organisms from exposure to the substance in question. Aquatic PNECs for methylcylcohexane have been derived using assessment factors. The risk characterization ratio (RCR) has demonstrated that there is no indication of risk i. e. PEC/PNEC freshwater < 1 from current exposure conditions to methylcyclohexane.

Furthermore, considering the high volatility, the substance is expected to be rapidly removed from the water column. Therefore chronic exposure of aquatic organisms is unlikely to occur. Nevertheless, available data on algae indicate that a chronic toxicity of methylcyclohexane exists with a NOErC beeing ≤ 0,1 mg/L, resulting in chronic classification (CLP: chronic 1). It is not expected, that further testing on aquatic invertebrates would result in a more stringent classification for methylcyclohexane.

In conclusion, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex IX, Column 2, 9. 1, as the RCR freshwater is < 1 no further effects of methylcyclohexane on aquatic organisms need to be investigated and a long-term test with aquatic invertebrates is therefore not required.
