Additional information

Two studies investigating the short-term toxicity of methylcyclohexane (CAS No. 108 -87 -2) to aquatic invertebrates are available. The key study was conducted according to a Japanese guideline (Circular on Test Methods of New Chemical Substances (Japan), Daphnia, acute immobilisation test) and using Daphnia magna as test organism. The semi-static GLP study (MOE, 2008) determined a 48h-EC50 value of 0.326 mg/L on the basis of time weighted average concentrations. The loss of test substance due to volatilisation during the preparation of test solution was not significant. The measured initial concentrations ranged about 78 - 91% of nominal. To minimize further substance losses during the test, the test was performed in a closed system without headspace. In this way, 78 – 91 % of the initial measured concentrations remained stable during the 24 hour intervals. An additional study investigating the toxicity of the test substance to the marine bay shrimp (Crangon franciscorum; Benville et al., 1985) resulted in a much higher 96h-LC50 value of 3.3 mg/L (measured concentration).
