Description of key information

Terrestrial toxicity is not considered relevant as the only affected compartment is the aquatic environment. The substance has a very low vapour pressure. Distribution to the terrestrial compartment via air therefore is not expected. Release into the environment is not expected during industrial manufacturing or use of Phenothiazine. No biosolids of industrial origin are applied on land (in line with national regulations). Sewage sludge is incinerated. Since no transport into the terrestric is expected, testing for terrestrial were considered as not justified. Beyond this there are several studies on mammalians and other species, which show, that bioaccumulation of Phenothiazine is not relevant. Therefore any secondary poisoning can be excluded.

Phenothiazine was used up to the 1940s as insecticide, which was very potent against several insects, but also against bees. Nowadays, this application no longer matters because in the most countries it is not approved as a biocide.
