Description of key information

The boiling point for 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, the main degradation product of bis(2 -ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate is 186.2 (±0.2) °C at 101.325 kPa.
The degradation product is decisive in the environmental risk assessment as the parent substance hydrolyses rapidly (t½ < 1 h at 5 °C).

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate decomposes before boiling. The self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT) of the substances is 0 °C (reference SADT: CLP regulations 2.15.2.3 and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition, sub-sections 28.1, 28.2, 28.3 and Table 28.3.).

The CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics cites the boiling point for 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, the main degradation product of bis(2-ethylhexyl) peroxydicarbonate to be 186.2 (± 0.2) °C at 101.325 kPa.
