Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General advice: Transport the injured person to the hospital.
Inhalation: In case of inhalation, stop breathing and remove to fresh air out of the contaminated area. In case of respiratory failure, remove the victim to fresh air and keep in security lateral position in a warm place.
Skin contact: In case of contact : remove immediately all contaminated or spattered clothing. Take a shower and rinse the whole body with plenty of water. Wash the contaminated parts of the body with water and soap. Alert a physician.
Eye contact: In case of contact with eyes : rinse immediately with plenty of water for about ten minutes. Ask immediately an ophtalmologist's advice.
Ingestion: Transport immediately the injured person to the hospital.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media: CO2, powder, chemical foam, water spray.
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: None.
Specific fire hazard(s): Vapours form explosive vapour-air mixture. Heating may cause an explosion.
Special protective equipment for firefighters: Any self-contained breathing apparatus and appropriate protective clothing.
Accidental release measures
Personal precaution(s): Evacuate people in the hazardous area. Remove any ignition source. Mark out with beacons the contaminated area. Operate with self contained breathing apparatus and spare bottles. Operate with anti-explosion equipment. Ventilate enclosed volume.
Environmental precaution(s): Avoid release to the environment. Do not empty into drains.
Method(s) for cleaning up:
- RECOVERY: Recover with an absorbant (vermiculite, sand...) in order to stop the spilling. Collect in an appropriate container.
- DISPOSAL: Destroy the product by incineration in an authorized area.
Material can be neutralized by sodium hypochlorite (javel).
Handling and storage
Handling
- Precaution(s): Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
- Technical condition(s): Vapours exhaustion at the emission source.
Storage
- Precaution(s): Keep protected from heat.
Store in a cool and ventilated place.
Keep under nitrogen.
Provide for a retention basin.
- Packaging / tank material: To be stored in a stainless steel or enamled container.
- Unsuitable packaging materials: Avoid every other type of packaging.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Engineering measure(s):
Exposure limit values
- Exposure limit(s):
1, 1-DIMETHYLHYDRAZINE:VME ppm = 0,5 - VME mg = 1,2
1.1-DIMETHYLHYDRAZINE : VLE = N.A TLV = 1.2 mg/m3 VME = 0.2 mg/m3 MAK N.A. Suspicious to be carcinogenic for man. Risk of skin allergy. RisK of sensibilization.
Exposure controls
- Respiratory protection: Wear mask against organic vapours.
- Hand protection: Wear suitable gloves.
- Skin protection: Appropriate protective clothing.
- Eye protection: Safety goggles.
Hygiene measure(s): Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Do not breathe vapours. Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Wash one's hand before breaks and at the end of day's work. Shower at the end of working. Clean protective equipment and working clothes.
Further information:
DECONTAMINATION DEVICE: Glove rinse, washbasin, eyes rinse receptacle. Showers near at hand. Decontaminated showers (with soap) close by.
Stability and reactivity
Conditions to avoid
Thermal stability : the product is stable at room temperature. Not notified decomposition when distilled at atmospheric pressure. It decomposes at high temperature. Metallic compounds traces induce faster decomposition. Avoid all ignition sources.
Material(s) to avoid: Dangerous reactions with strong acids, oxidizers and flammable organic materials.
Hazardous decomposition products: AMMONIA
Disposal considerations
Waste / unused products: Observe all state and local regulations when disposing of this substance. Incinerate in an authorized area according to regulation. Do not dispose of in the environment.
Contaminated packaging: Wash soiled packaging with water.
