Description of key information

Hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) is not harmful to microorganisms and disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are not possible.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One study investigated the effects of hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) towards microorganisms. The inhibition of nitrification of activated sludge microorganisms was tested equivalent to “ISO DIS 9509 (Method for Assessing the Inhibition of Nitrification of Activated Sludge Microorganisms by Chemicals and Waste Waters)” (Mead, 1998). The test resulted in an EC50 of > 1000 mg a.i./L. In conclusion, no effects of hexyl D-glucoside towards microorganisms were found and can be expected.
