Description of key information

Hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) is not harmful to freshwater and marine fish under conditions tested.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Three studies investigated the short-term effects of hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) towards fish. The studies were performed with Scophthalmus maximus for the marine and Oncorhynchus mykiss for the freshwater compartment. The freshwater studies exhibited LC50 (96 h) values of > 100 mg/L and 420 mg/L, respectively (Wetton, 1997 and 1998). These tests were performed according to OECD guideline 203 “Fish, Acute Toxicity Test”. One test with marine species exhibited a LC50 (96 h) of 765 mg/L (Svalheim, 2004). This test was performed similar to “PARCOM Protocols on methods for the testing of chemicals used in the offshore industry. Part B: Protocol for a fish Acute toxicity test”.
