Additional information

The vapour pressure of ethylene diformate (CAS 629-15-2) indicates that this substance has potential for volatilization into the air (172 Pa). Nevertheless, the Henry’s Law Constant of < 1 Pa m³/mole shows that ethylene diformate is not expected to evaporate easily from the water phase. If released into the air, the substance is susceptible to indirect photodegradation in air (DT50 value: 104.74 h), and therefore, significant accumulation in air and the subsequent transport to other environmental compartments is not anticipated. Reliable QSAR data indicate that ethylene diformate will hydrolyse to ethylene glycol and formic acid with DT50 values of 1.24 d (pH7) and 2.98 h (pH8). The relevance of hydrolysis as an abiotic degradation pathway was also shown in available aquatic studies with DT50 values of 4-11 h (Vryenhoef, 2012).
