Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Interpretation of results:
readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
The substance cyclic trimethylolpropane formal (CTF) is readily biodegradable.
Executive summary:

The biodegradability of cyclic trimethylolpropane formal (CTF) was determined according to OECD guideline 301A (DOC Die away test). The amount of biodegradation observed comprised 4% after 14 days but increased to 84% after 21 days. CTF can therefore be classified as readily biodegradable and passing the 10 day window.

Description of key information

One key study is presented. This study demonstrates that the test substance Cyclic trimethylolpropane formal (CTF) has been found to the readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable
Type of water:
freshwater

Additional information

The test substance 5-ethyl-1,3-dioxane-5-methanol has been found to the readily biodegradable with >90% removal after 28 days in both the key and supporting studies. As such removal in the environment is expected to be rapid and complete.
