Reference
Endpoint:
vapour pressure
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2023-01-12 to 2023-01-20
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 104 (Vapour Pressure Curve)
Version / remarks:
The procedure outlined in this document has been designed to be compatible with the following guidelines and recommendations:
• EC Method A.4
• OECD Method 104, Adopted 23 March 2006
• EPA/OPPTS 830.7950
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
effusion method: vapour pressure balance
Remarks:
The vapour pressure was determined using a vapour pressure balance (made by Labcorp). The method was chosen since the vapour pressure of the compound was anticipated to be within the recommended range for the apparatus. The recommended range in the guide.
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Identification: CTF
Alternative name: Cyclic Trimethylolpropane Formal
Chemical name: 5-Ethyl-1,3-dioxane-5-methanol
EC number: 225-967-8
CAS number: 5187-23-5
Key result
Temp.:
25 °C
Vapour pressure:
4.2 Pa

The results from the two definitive determinations (Runs 1 and 2) are detailed in Tables 1 and 2, with plots of log10 Vp versus 1/T in Figure 1. A summary is shown below:

 Run 1Run 2

Log10 Vp at 25oC0.650.60
Vp (Pa) at at 25oC4.443.97

The mean vapour pressure was 4.2 Pa at 25°C
On visual inspection of the samples following testing, the appearance remained unchanged.

Conclusions:
The vapour pressure of CTF was determined by interpolation to be 4.2 Pa at 25°C.
Executive summary:

A vapor pressure study following the OECD TG 104 was (effusion method: vapor pressure balance) performed with the CTF test item. The Vp (vapor pressure) was measured to be 4.2 Pa at 25oC.

Description of key information

Vapor pressure obtained from the OECD TG 104, is 4.2Pa at 25 degree celsius.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Vapour pressure:
4.2 Pa
at the temperature of:
25 °C
