Description of key information
A respiration inhibition study was performed to assess the effect of terpinolene monoconstituent on STP microorganisms according to OECD guideline No 209.
The 3h-EC50 of terpinolene monoconstituent for inhibition of respiration of activated sludge is 69 mg/L.
The 3h-EC10 of terpinolene monoconstituent for inhibition of respiration of activated sludge is 7 mg/L.
Therefore, terpinolene monoconstituent is considered harmful to activated sludge.

Key study conducted according to OECD 209 Guideline under GLP without deviation.
Terpinolene monoconstituent was tested at nominal concentrations of 8.6, 17.2, 34.4, 68.8, 137.6, 275.2, 550.4, 1100.8 mg/L and the inoculum (microbial source) was activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage. The validity criteria were fulfilled and the observed 3h-EC50 and 3h-EC10 values can be used for chemical safety assessment.
